Disenchanted

"Yeah, just make sure he's careful, Ethan wouldn't make it in jail," she said, thinking for a moment. "He's too pretty," she added with a grin.

"I guess." Caleb shrugged. "Anyway, go and grab what you need. I'll still be here when you're done."

"Kay," Maria looked at the list.

4 phials of wolfsbane
3 bottles of chloroform
2 boxes of jasmine leaves

She grabbed all of the items, placed them on the counter, and grabbed her coin purse.

Parker, as he was so definitely bored, decided to stop by Ethan's potion shop. He was an adventurer, and hanging out with his best friend always proved to be an adventure like none other. "Hey!" he called, traipsing in the front door. He spotted Caleb and Maria, and walked over. "Afternoon, Caleb. And you too, Maria. You're looking quite stunning, as always."

"Afternoon Parker." She said, pulling a few gold coins out of the satchel and placing them on the counter.
"Is this enough?" She asked.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, it's fine," Caleb said, taking Maria's money. "And Parker, nice to see you again."

"Oh, Caleb, you little apprentice," Parker laughed, reaching out and ruffling the other's hair. "You amuse me so. How is your boss doing? Anything interesting going on that I'd find worth hearing about?"

"Thanks, I should get back and make sure Neely isn't, like, eaten or something." She said jokingly, waving goodbye before she turned to walk past Parker.

"Bye, Maria. I'll see you later." Caleb sighed, and tried fixing his hair. "Um, thanks... I guess, Parker. And I'm not sure. It all depends on what you consider interesting."

"Bye, Maria! Why, Caleb, I'm an adventurer, it's all interesting to me!" Parker said, grinning. "Unless, of course, it's horrendously boring."

"... I'm sure that at least made sense to you in your head," Caleb said, shaking his head and biting back laughter. "Ethan's working on something to do with love potions, if that means anything to you. He's in the back."

Maria went back to the shop. She placed the ingredients on the counter and then took her place at the desk, to wait for customers until her lunch break.

"Love potions, eh? Truly wondrous gossip," Parker acknowledged with a nod. "I'll go see what he's up to and tell him about the latest adventures. Thank you, Caleb." He wandered off into the back, and finally found the potion's master. "Hey, man, what goes on over here?"

"Concentration, and not listening to your latest crimes, Parker," Ethan muttered, leaning close to the surface of the potion. It was bubbling slightly and was at a purple hue, which Ethan considered a success.

"Oh?" Parker asked. "And here I had all these wonderful stories of my latest adventure for you. It was quite possibly one of the most epic. I simply can't fathom as to why you never want to come join me on one of my odysseys." He shrugged. "But, I suppose what you're working on right now is more important. And you are working on what, exactly? I heard something about love potions from Caleb."

"Apprentices," Ethan scoffed, "This is greater than any lowly love potion. You know heart dealing? This uses the same concept, nearly. You drink this potion, and you are led to your soulmate." He spared a glance toward Parker, "Though I guess it would have no effect on you."

"Oh, hey, fuck you too," Parker said, lightly shoving his friend. "Dude, seriously, why the hell would you need that? Getting a little too lonely in here? Woe is you. I'm always up for a good time, if you need one, you know that."

"No." Ethan said firmly, glaring at Parker for as long as he could before fretting over the potion, "It was just experimenting, that's what science is about. You wouldn't know, you've probably got scurvy."

"Scurvy is for pirates, which I am not. Or so you tell me. Repeatedly," Parker muttered, frowning. "Science this, science that. You know you're a lonely person. Even if I'm completely wrong, who's going to try it before you start selling it? I'm sure as hell not, and I doubt you could get your lackey to do it. It's kind of narrowed down to you... and yeah, you."

"I could spike your apple juice," Ethan shrugged, clearing away some ingredients as he spoke, "I know where your house is. And your boat. And I can pick locks. Be careful what you ingest." As an afterthought, he added, "I'm not lonely. Just nobody around here is worthy of my affections. I have standards."

"Excuses, excuses," Parker said, waving his hand. "Why do you always have a stick up your ass? I'm sure you could find a nice, pretty lass if you tried being a little more personable. Hell, I could find you one whilst on one of my excursions. I know lots of pretty girls. And guys, if that's what you prefer."

"Neither, thank you, I am dedicated to my work and I have no time for distractions," Ethan shook his head, glaring at Parker, "And let me guess, on your little voyages you find women--or men, if that's what you prefer--and sleep with them, then leave? You're classy."

"Hey, hey! Don't knock it till you try it! Besides, never said classy was what I was going for." Parker shrugged. "Man, you're totally obsessed with this, aren't you? I know a guy who's into heart-dealing. Pretty shady business, if I may say so myself, but if you're into it, I could ask the guy if he's busy later."

"Actually," Ethan mused, looking at his potions on the shelves thoughtfully, "That might be useful. Can you get me a meet-up with this guy? I still feel like something's missing from the potion..."
